Full Day Kruger National Park Safari Tours

Our safari tours provide guests with a uniquely African wildlife experience. We are situated only 20 minutes away from the Orpen Gate entrance into the heart of the world-renowned Kruger National Park. Our full day safari takes you through the extraordinary panoramas of the Kruger National Park in the company of one of our highly qualified and experienced guides. We look forward to providing you with the opportunity to experience Africa’s most spectacular wildlife in a true wilderness environment: prepare to be thrilled by possible large-as-life sightings of not only the Big 5 but many other beautiful animals of Africa whilst roaming the bushland. Throughout the day your guides will not only be tracking the bigger game animals but also informing you on birdlife, insects, trees and many other interesting elements to the beautiful wilderness environment of the Kruger National Park.

Half day safaris can also be arranged.

Sunset and Sunrise Safari Tours

As the fiery orange sun sets, or begins to rise, the African bush comes to life. Diurnal creatures start to seek out locations for rest and refuge. The nocturnal ones (most notably the big cats) become bolder and more active as they prepare to direct their energies towards serious feeding.

Our spectacular sunset and sunrise safaris, conducted in open game viewing vehicles, set off at early morning or mid-afternoon, and take you deep into the bush of one of the adjacent Big 5 private wildlife reserves.

Non Big 5 Bush Walk

Timbavati Safari Lodge bush walk offers more than just the ‘Big 5’, but looking out for the ‘Small 5’, known as the ant lion, elephant shrew, leopard tortoise, buffalo weaver and rhino beetle. There are a huge variety of bugs/insects and reptiles that can be seen, and it does not stop there. The bush is alive with many legends and historical stories, medicinal and traditional uses of the plants that are often only known about through the expert knowledge of local guides.

Listening, touching and sensing, can open your world to the real secrets of the African Lowveld.

Our local area is an interesting niche ecosystem with a large variety of tree and flora species. This allows for smaller wild game, prolific bird life and many smaller inhabitants of the bush. Although the bush walk is focused on the Flora and fauna of the Lowveld, there are many opportunities for spotting a wide range of wildlife including; zebra, kudu, blue-wildebeest, impala, grey-duiker, bushbuck, warthog, and mongoose. Another key highlight of taking a bush walk  is tracking the events of the previous night’s nocturnal animals such as Porcupine, Civet, Honey Badger, Genets and Bush Babies.

Bird life is seasonal but some common special spots may yield; Helmeted Guinea Fowl, Purple-crested turaco, Grey go-away bird, Levaillant’s cuckoo, African emerald cuckoo, wood owl, scops owl (both Southern white-faced and African), woodland kingfisher, African pygmy-kingfisher, black cuckoo shrike, flycatchers, and many more.

Sihlekisi Primary School Project

SIHLEKISI (si-lek-e-si) Primary School is situated in a rural area of the South African lowveld near the Orpen Gate into the Kruger National Park. It is on the western side of Sigagule village near the Timbavati Safari Lodge, on the road between Acornhoek and Orpen Gate. Sihlekisi Primary School has been adopted as a community project.

Our Mission:
To raise money for repairs and improvements to the Sihlekisi Primary School for the overall benefit of learners.

Project Background
Consideration was given to forming a community project that could be a partnership between Timbavati Safari Lodge, visiting guests and the nearby community of Sigagule village. The project needed to benefit as many of the people as possible. Timbavati Safari Lodge conducts a ‘village walk’ for guests to view Sigagule village, talk to the people of the village and take photos. Something is needed to be returned to the community for this privilege of viewing their life styles. On the 25th July 2005 a small group of guests, who happened to be professionals in the field of education and learning, had requested a visit to the school.

Those inspirational guests were, Dr. Adrie Visscher, Mr. & Mrs. Mombers and their sons; as well as Mr. & Mrs. van der Made. After watching the guests and the children and looking around the school and later chatting to the guests, the project started to take shape. Sihlekisi School is the only primary school in the area for the children of the Sigagule community and is an ideal candidate for a benefit project that will reach nearly everyone in the community. The people of the area are poor and under-privileged, and most families have children at the primary school.

Every year Timbavati Safari Lodge holds a Christmas party for all the learners. We work hard to receive donations from local suppliers to enable us to offer the kids a celebration after a hard year of learning. This helps encourage the children to come to school and work hard throughout the year.

Objectives:
– Raise the level of awareness of the needs of the school and learners.
– Continue to raise money for the project. Continue to make repairs and improve appearance of buildings and grounds. Improve water output from the borehole, supply a water tank and supply water to the toilet block.

The project is being co-ordinated by Timbavati Safari Lodge, together with the School Governing body and the Principal.

Thank you to those guests who have started this project and have made donations.
