Trekking and exploring on foot is one of the best ways to experience all that Chile has to offer. Patagonia is an international drawcard on many bucket lists, and the Torres del Paine National Park with moderate 3-8 day treks for all abilities is one of the best. Choose from Refugios or camping, and tailor your hiking adventure to individual experience (easy shorter duration hiking days to full blown endurance events), just remember to keep your eyes skyward occasionally to spot the huge Andean Condor (the national bird of Chile) – This is one of the best places to see Andean Condors and Huemul deer in all of Chile.
The diversity of Chile is staggering. From exploring the legendary Moai statues at Rano Raraku on Rapa Nui (Easter Island) – around 400 statues remain, to the glacial peaks of the Andes, and the Valle de la Luna sand dunes of the Atacama Desert, there really is something for everyone in Chile. Punta Arenas is also the flight gateway to Antarctica so why not combine a Chile adventure with a visit to great Southern Continent.
Chile is also an excellent wildlife viewing destination, with a standout experience being Whale watching. Head to the Straits of Magellan for incredible Humpback Whale encounters, with Puerto Montt in the Lake District being the focal destination to reach nearby Chiloe – where the greatest chance to witness the rare Blue Whale (the largest animal on earth) exists along the Chilean Coast.
